Science Week at Andreas School
25th May 2004

On Tuesday May 25th some members gladly took some time off work to take part in the local schools "Science Week". This was an event initiated by the parents of the school where they invited many local professionals from the Island to come and talk about their particular "science".

During the week pupils from the whole school were involved in some very interesting presentations from a British Airways Captain, Brian Rea of the Ronaldsway Met Office and Bob Fennell CFI of the Andreas Gliding club to mention just a few.

We had a fantastic time - the parents and staff of Andreas school looked after us well and we really hope the pupils of the school got as much out of the occasion as we did.

Bob Fennell shows pupils the L33 in the playing field

Some of the youngest

The club's Technical Officer, Dave Wiseman, very kindly brought his L33 Solo to the school where it was rigged in the playing field. During a glorious afternoon Bob Fennell then explained all about gliders, gliding, and how they soar the skies.

It was very clear that the pupils had taken in what was being said to them since one group, having just been with the British Airways Captain already knew how the wing worked and how to control the glider in flight - which stole some of Bob's thunder!
